The SP-700 is the latest release in compact cameras for Olympus. One might expect a compact digital camera to have a microscopic LCD screen, but the SP-700 pleasantly surprises in this department—three full inches. As you will see by the backside picture, Olympus has squeezed the controls to one side to make room for the LCD. This digital camera has a good amount of potential.

The Olympus SP-700 is a 6.0 megapixel camera with a 3x precision zoom ability. The zoon is the equivalent of a 38-114mm range in 35mm cameras. To aid the photographer, the SP-700 comes with a whopping twenty-four scene modes including Portrait, Snow, Night, Beach and more. This camera has the potential to be a lot of fun at pool parties if you buy a waterproof case (PT-013).

For those photographers who love to shoot up close, the Olympus SP-700 comes with both a macro mode and a super macro mode. By using the super macro mode, you can take good pictures from just 1cm away from your subject. In fact, there is even an underwater macro mode.

As you can see, the Olympus SP-700 is a very nice looking compact camera. The SP-700, as many digital cameras today, has the ability to take movie clips with sound. The video portion of the click is taken using QuickTime Motion JPEG and the sound is recorded in WAV format. You can either set the ISO to auto or manually select an ISO of 64, 100, 200, or 400. The camera has no viewfinder, which is of little concern to compact digital camera users, and used an xD-picture card for memory.
